About TerraCivic
TerraCivic is an independent civic transparency, research, analysis, and geographic visualization application. It helps users explore publicly reported political activity associated with businesses and organizations. TerraCivic is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Federal Election Commission.
Using the controls
Settings controls party filters, routes, drawn areas, and map options. Locate returns to your current position. Nearby opens the activity ledger. Theme and Voice change display and spoken guidance.
How do I search somewhere else?
Move the map to the area you want to explore, then tap Search This Area beneath the Draw control. TerraCivic searches around the center of the map using your selected radius. Tap Locate to return to your GPS location and resume following it.
How to read the classifications
DEM, REP, and MIXED are TerraCivic analytical classifications, not FEC classifications. DEM means the Democratic major-party share is at least 60%; REP means the Republican major-party share is at least 60%; MIXED means neither reaches 60%.
Evidence categories
Organization/PAC Activity is direct activity associated with organizations, connected PACs, committee-connected organizations, or qualifying organization transactions. Employer-Affiliated Activity is aggregated from individuals who reported an organization as their employer in FEC records. Employer affiliation does not establish that the organization made, authorized, directed, reimbursed, endorsed, or participated in those contributions, or that a contributor works at the mapped location or remains employed there.
Map matching
TerraCivic matches its political profiles to mapped business names, primarily from OpenStreetMap. Name matching does not establish corporate political intent or prove that employer-affiliated activity came from employees at a displayed location. Chain locations may share a profile when the mapped brand name matches the same TerraCivic profile.
Methodology and data freshness
Political information originates from periodic FEC bulk-data snapshots. TerraCivic processes and aggregates those public records, suppresses contributor identities from its application output, and generates its own business-level summaries and classifications. Map interaction and location searches may be live, but political records are a generated snapshot rather than live FEC transaction reporting.
Privacy
TerraCivic does not publish contributor names, contributor addresses, personal contact information, individual contribution amounts, individual recipient histories, or searchable individual contributor profiles.
